Caterham Partners with Yamaha Motor for Next Phase of Project V EV Sports Coupe
Caterham has announced that Yamaha Motor, the well-known Japanese mobility manufacturer, will join as a key development partner for its highly anticipated electric sports coupe – Project V. As part of this collaboration, Yamaha will supply its advanced e-axle to be integrated into the prototype model, marking a significant step in the car’s journey toward commercial production.
The news comes a year after the initial design concept of Project V was revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, with a later appearance at the Tokyo Auto Salon. The carmaker is now entering the next phase of development, aiming to bring this all-electric sports car to market.
Project V will maintain the signature elements that have long defined the Caterham brand – lightweight, simplicity, and a fun driving experience – while incorporating Yamaha’s latest innovations in electric powertrains. The partnership will also tap into Yamaha’s expertise in vehicle motion control technology, further enhancing the dynamic performance expected from a Caterham model.
Development of the prototype is being spearheaded by TOKYO R&D, a specialist engineering firm with a strong track record in producing prototype and production vehicles for major automakers. The completion of the Project V prototype is expected by mid-2025, a crucial milestone as the car edges closer to entering the market.
Project V is being developed under the Caterham name, which is part of VT Holdings, a Japanese company based in Nagoya. The partnership with Yamaha is seen as an essential factor in delivering an electric powertrain that meets the high expectations of Caterham enthusiasts, while also accelerating the overall development timeline.
By teaming up with Yamaha, Caterham aims to blend its storied heritage with cutting-edge electric technology, ensuring Project V lives up to the brand’s reputation for performance and driving pleasure in the new era of electric vehicles.
