Mercedes Benz launches the AMG G 63 ‘Edition 463’ and AMG GLS 63 in India

Pune: Mercedes-Benz has launched its luxury performance SUVs, the AMG G 63 ‘Edition 463’ and AMG GLS 63 in India, taking its SUV portfolio in the country to eight. Globally, the ‘G Wagen’ has been one of the most awe inspiring vehicle in its class, since its launch in 1979. Every G is still crafted by hand in Graz, Austria, with intricate details meticulously tested and handcrafted to perfection by AMG engineers. No other SUV feels quite like a G, nor is any built like one. The 3 ton plus SUV is quite literally in a league of its own.

The AMG G 63 is a true blue off-roader with the heart of an AMG sports car. It is equipped with a supercharged 5.5-litre V8-engine developing 420 kW @5500 rpm and a maximum torque of 760 Nm @5000 rpm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 210 km/h. The combination of three 100% differential locks, an off-road reduction gear and the Electronic Traction System 4ETS is unique in this segment, and makes for outstanding off-roading capabilities.

Interiors feature a single-tone dashboard in black leather; 2-tone black or light brown leather seats, with side bolsters in black carbon leather; a 2-tone centre console coordinated with top stitching to match the selected seat colour; AMG carbon-fibre trim; and door centre panels in leather with diamond quilting.

Exterior features include stainless-steel underride guard, AMG Sport strips on flanks, inserts in exterior protective strips in dark aluminium look, and 21″ 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels in matt black with high-sheen rim flange.

The AMG GLS 63 sports an updated design featuring the AMG brand look and luxury interiors. Superior driving performance and generous passenger and luggage space characterises the new avatar. It is the quickest performance SUV in the segment, with a 5.5-litre V8 BITURBO engine, which develops a peak output of 430 kW and maximum torque of 760 Nm. It boasts of high-level driving dynamics and comfort with features like AMG RIDE CONTROL and sports suspension with ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM roll stabilisation; and packs the perfect blend of style, luxury, sportiness and performance driving with the permanent AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.

Interior features include AMG Performance steering wheel in black nappa leather; temperature-controlled cup holder; multi contour front seats including massage function, luxury head restraints and seat cushion depth adjustment; THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control; memory package with heated front & rear seats; double sun blind; Harmon Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system; and electrically foldable 2nd & 3nd row seats.

Exterior features include a collapsible spare wheel, chrome fins, red brake callipers, panoramic sliding sunroof, mirror package, brand logo projection, anti-theft protection package, LED Intelligent Light System with integrated LED DRLs, adaptive High Beam Assist Plus, AMG Body styling and tailgate with electrical opening and closing functions.

AMG has for the past 18 years instilled the hand-built G-Class with its handcrafted horsepower, which has now been elevated to an entirely new dimension. Prices for the AMG G 63 ‘Edition 463’ and AMG GLS 63 are INR 2.17 crore and INR 1.58 crore (ex-showroom Pune) respectively.
