Volvo India’s Epic EV Journey Showcases the Power of Electric Mobility
In a bold move to celebrate World EV Day and promote sustainable mobility, Volvo Cars India is setting off on an extraordinary 3,250 km electric vehicle (EV) journey across the country. This cross-country drive will take the Volvo C40 Recharge from the arid deserts of Jaisalmer to the lush rain-drenched landscapes of Mawsynram, the wettest place on earth. The journey is more than just another drive – it’s a statement that EVs are ready to conquer India’s diverse and challenging terrain, regardless of the weather conditions.
Covering the distance from west to east, Volvo’s drive will pass through some of India’s iconic cities, including Jodhpur, Jaipur, Delhi, Agra, Lucknow, Siliguri, and Shillong. The expedition aims to showcase the C40 Recharge’s impressive range and performance across varying weather conditions—from the blistering heat of Rajasthan to the relentless rains of the Northeast. Volvo is making it clear: electric vehicles are no longer limited to urban commutes – they are built to tackle the open road and deliver unforgettable driving experiences.
Volvo Car India’s Managing Director, Mr. Jyoti Malhotra, shared his excitement about the project, saying, “A 3,250 kilometre drive, spread across 13 days and covering a wide spectrum of climatic conditions, is a test for both the car and the drivers. The driving comfort of the C40 Recharge will ensure a memorable experience, and the distance covered will boost customer confidence in our EVs.” The journey is set to challenge the long-standing myth of range anxiety among Indian consumers, proving that electric vehicles are more than capable of handling long-distance drives, even in extreme climates.
In addition to showcasing the capabilities of their EVs, Volvo Cars India is also highlighting their ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability. The journey will include a stop in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, where Volvo has made a significant impact by transforming an urban dump yard into a thriving urban forest. As part of their ‘Reverse Project’ initiative, launched in June, Volvo has planted over 10,300 trees in the area, making a positive contribution to the local ecosystem.
This ambitious drive aligns with Volvo’s global mission to become a climate-neutral company by 2040 and underscores their dedication to sustainable mobility. As the C40 Recharge glides across India’s varying landscapes, it symbolizes not only the future of driving but also a commitment to a cleaner, greener world.
