Mercedes-Benz maintains leadership in luxury car sales in India
Mercedes-Benz continued its lead in the Indian luxury car segment for the fourth year in a row by achieving its best ever sales number for the period January-December 2018. With a record sale of 15,538 units during the period, the company registered 1.4% growth in sales volume beating strong macro-economic headwinds. This was the second consecutive year when it sold more than 15,000 units annually.
During the year, the company introduced new products and technologies in the market including India’s first BS VI car two years ahead of the regulation, and also created new benchmark in the areas of customer service and retail experience.
The sales momentum in 2018 was buoyed by a young and comprehensive product portfolio comprising the New Generation sedans, SUVs and the AMG lineup. The Long Wheelbase E-Class sedan was the single highest selling model for the year, while the C-Class sedan and the CLA remained on top of Mercedes-Benz customer preference. The GLC stood out as the most popular SUV.
The AMG models sustained their momentum in the performance segment, with the AMG E 63 S, the AMG GLE 43 Coupe and AMG GLC 43 coupe getting a good response.
Year 2019 marks 25 years of Mercedes-Benz in India, and ‘Best Never Rest’ will be Mercedes-Benz India’s motto for the year. It signifies the philosophy that the brand will carry forward on the back of its rich learnings and experiences of the past 25 years, and embark on a new journey towards reinventing itself for the future.
There will be new launches including an array of exciting AMG products that will make their India debut in 2019. A significant focus will be on emerging Tier II and Tier III markets. Experiential events like Brand Tour, Service on Wheels, Service Clinics, LuxeDrive and AMG Emotional Tours will continue to remain the highlight of 2019.
