Tata Motors unveils the all new Safari

The new Safari from Tata Motors builds on the legacy of prestige and performance by combining the Impact 2.0 design language with the proven capability of OMEGARC, an architecture derived from Land Rover’s D8 platform – the gold standard of SUVs worldwide.

As the flagship SUV from Tata Motors, Safari takes its legacy forward by building on its pedigree – dominating SUV stance, spacious, comfortable & plush interiors, spirited performance and robust built. The new Safari is available in 6 and 7 seater options, and the Kryotec 2L Turbocharged 170PS Diesel Engine offers segment leading ride and handling. With its plush, premium and spacious interiors and top-of-the-line safety, technology and connectivity features, it takes the experience to the next level.

The award winning Impact 2.0 design language of the new Safari reflects its all-purpose nature – with its domineering stance enhanced in the new avatar. The exterior enhancements include a signature grille with the tri-arrow chrome motif encased by the humanity line; and the stepped roof held between the roof-rails that is immensely stylish yet functional. Other improvements include the flared wheel arches, protective side cladding, dual tone front bumper, Xenon HID projector headlamps, dual function LED DRLs with turn indicators, signature twin light LED tail lamps, 18” machined alloy wheels and shark fin antenna.

The indulgent interiors come in a signature oyster white colour scheme, Ashwood dashboard, premium Benecke Kaliko oyster white perforated leather seat upholstery & door pad inserts, satin chrome pack, soft touch dashboard with anti reflective ‘Nappa’ grain top layer, leather wrapped steering wheel & gear shift knob. Overall, the New Safari comes with fine workmanship, enriched with indulgent & luxurious interiors, made from high-quality materials.

Cossetting occupants with high driving and commanding seat positions, the ergonomically designed interiors offer segment leading comfort for adults in the 3rd row, with abundant knee-room (832 mm) & headroom (889 mm) for a stretch during long drives. Intelligently designed utility spaces and added functionalities such as – dedicated AC unit, AC vents, USB mobile charger, mobile holder, cup holder and reading lamp – make the last row a no-compromise zone on matters of passenger comfort.

The best-in-segment panoramic sunroof in the new Safari offers views like never before, with practical features for convenience and safety of passengers. The ‘Global Close’ feature closes the Sunroof automatically when the ignition is turned off and the vehicle is parked with doors locked. It comes with an anti-pinch safety feature and rain sensor closure that prevents rainwater from getting into the cabin. The rollover screen with a black coating on the glass side helps with heat dissipation and keeps the cabin cool. Separate user-friendly switches for each function ensures ease of use while driving.

Indulgent passenger features include a Boss mode for added convenience to stretch legs further and create additional space. Optional Captain seats and 60:40 split for the second row, reclining second row seats, ambient mood lighting, fully automatic temperature control (FATC), rear AC vents and intelligently designed utility spaces improve convenience. Some of the notable features include rear armrest with cup holders, cooled storage box, Tab storage tray, mobile holders, coin holder, umbrella holder, bottle holders and sunglass holder.

For those behind the wheel, the new Safari comes with push button start, 6-way powered driver seat with adjustable lumbar support, a steering wheel with tilt & telescopic adjustment, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, and electrically adjustable/ foldable outer mirrors.

The ride & handling in the new Safari has been substantially refined with the precisely engineered next-generation Kryotec 2.0 Turbocharged Diesel Engine, that offers an effortless driving experience and versatile performance. The engine delivers 170 PS Power & 350 Nm of Torque, and is mated to 6 speed automatic/ manual transmission. There is cruise control, multi drive modes that include Engine Drive Modes (Eco, City, Sport) married to the ESP Terrain Response Modes (Normal, Rough & Wet) for taking on difficult terrains. The Electronically Controlled Variable Geometry Turbocharger (eVGT) offers better low end torque and linear power delivery, while the light weight and low friction valve train architecture reduces noise, harshness & vibration. The suspension is carried over from D8 and is tuned for Indian conditions, and the steering is calibrated for improved driving dynamics. The large R18 tyres offer a stable and grounded driving experience in all terrains.

The new Safari comes loaded with top-of-the-line safety features to ensure active and passive safety, such as – electronic parking brake with auto hold, all disc brakes, tyre pressure monitor system (TPMS), 6 Airbags (Driver, Co-driver, Side Seat and Curtain Airbags), auto-dimming IRVM, front fog lamp with cornering function, child Seat ISOFIX anchor points, perimetric alarm system, reverse parking camera, driver & co-driver seat belt reminders.

Infotainment and Connectivity features include a floating island Touch Screen Infotainment System with 8.8” High Resolution Display, 320W RMS JBL Audio with 9 speakers (4 Speakers+ 4 Tweeters+ 1 Subwoofer) and external Amplifier, acoustically tuned by JBL, Android Auto & Apple Car Play* connectivity, instrument cluster with 7″ coloured TFT Display, Media, Phone & Navigation mirroring between infotainment & instrument cluster, Video playback and view images through USB, Voice Recognition & SMS readout, Voice alerts for Driver assistanc, USB/AUX in/Bluetooth Audio Playback.

The Safari comes with a pedigree that’s legendary, and is the second product in the portfolio that is based on the OMEGARC architecture derived from the D8 platform of Land Rover. The monocoque construction with optimised torsional and bending stiffness, is built on an advanced automated BIW assembly line for robust build quality and reliability. Extensive use of high strength steel and tailor welded blanks offer high strength & reduced weight. Efficiently designed crumple zones ensure safety, and the auxiliary isolation panels offer a quiet and refined in-cabin experience. The isolated sub-frame design minimises the noise and loads caused by severe impacts such as speed humps.

The new Safari has been adapted for Indian conditions with over 2.2 million kms of testing across torturous terrains.
