BMW launches its new Sports Activity Coupé X4 in India

The new BMW X4 was launched in India today at a starting price of INR 60.60 lacs. Locally produced in Chennai, the X4 is a ‘Sports Activity Coupé’, combining the robustness of the ‘X’ series with the sporting elegance of a coupé.

The X4 will be available in two diesel variants and one petrol variant. The diesel options are xDrive20d M Sport X priced at INR 60.60 lacs and the xDrive30d M Sport X priced at INR 65.90 lacs. The petrol variant xDrive30i M Sport X is priced at INR 63.50 lacs.

The new BMW X4 underscores its individual character with its driving dynamics, accentuated sporting design, refined interior and technology package. The M Sport X design combines the look of an elite sports coupé radiating an off-road-focussed sportiness. The front is characterised by a solid stance, the signature kidney grille and large air inlets, combined with fully adaptive LED headlights, anti-dazzle high-beam and LED fog lamps. The coupé -style roofline slides into the rear window before dipping down steeply to the rear. The rear is defined by an athletic shoulder area, wrap-around taillights with 3D styling. Emphasising the sporty character are twin exhaust pipes, a large automatic tailgate and the low-slung roof spoiler.

The generously proportioned interior offers an elevated seat position with first-class cabin comfort. The 40:20:40 split makes the rear backrest quite versatile. The backrest can also be folded down by pulling a lever in the luggage compartment. The generous storage on offer makes the vehicle both comfortable and functional.

The instrument panel in Sensatec lends an exclusive aura to the interior. There is a large electrically operated panorama glass roof, ambient lighting with six selectable light designs and welcome light carpet, which is projected from the side sill.

Tech features include BMW Display Key, which allows drivers to keep in contact with their car remotely, Gesture Control that recognises six pre-defined hand movements to control main functions, an integrated smartphone holder in the centre console that allows inductive wireless charging for mobile phones and BMW Display key; and Parking Assistant along with Rear View Camera and Park Distance Control (PDC).

The M Aerodynamics Package underscores the vehicle’s athleticism and modifies its airflow. The air intakes, side skirts, wheel arch trim and rear apron with diffuser insert are in Frozen Grey. The 19” light-alloy wheels along with M designation on the sides further emphasise its dynamic character. The M leather steering wheel, illuminated M door sill finishers and the blue sport brake callipers bearing the M logo are other distinguishing highlights.

Powertrain:

• The 3.0L six-cylinder diesel engine in the X4 xDrive30d produces peak power of 195 kW / 265 hp and a maximum torque of 620 Nm at 2,000-2,500 rpm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/ hr takes a mere 6.0 seconds.
• The 2.0L four cylinder diesel engine in the X4 xDrive20d produces peak power of 140 kW / 190 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm at 1,750-2,500 rpm. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/ hr in 8.0 seconds.
• The 2.0L four cylinder BS VI compliant petrol engine in the X4 xDrive30i produces an output of 185 kW / 252 hp and a maximum torque of 350 Nm at 1,450-4,800 rpm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/ hr takes just 6.3 seconds.

The 8-speed Steptronic Automatic Transmission comes with paddle shifters and collaborates perfectly with the engine, enabling it to develop full power and efficiency. The compact, low-weight and efficient all-wheel-drive system monitors the driving situation constantly and is quick to respond. The electronically controlled ‘Automatic Differential Brakes/Locks (ADB-X)’, extended ‘Dynamic Traction Control (DTC)’, Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control helps navigate through every situation and terrain.

Other features such as Auto Start-Stop, ECO PRO mode, Brake-Energy Regeneration, Electronic Power Steering, 50:50 Weight Distribution makes the X4 supremely efficient and dynamic. Driving modes include ECOPRO, COMFORT, SPORT/ SPORT+. Safety features include 6 airbags, Attentiveness Assistance, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Cornering Brake Control (CBC), electric parking brake with auto hold, side-impact protection, electronic vehicle immobiliser and crash sensor, and ISOFIX child seat mounting.

The Multifunctional Instrument Display, full-color Head-Up Display, Touchscreen with handwriting recognition, 10.25” navigation system with touch functionality, 16 speakers with 600W surround sound from Harman Kardon, BMW Apps, Wireless Apple Car Play and connectivity through Bluetooth and USB complete the long list of features that make the X4 a worthy addition to the BMW X bloodline.
