Volvo enters the compact luxury SUV segment in India with the XC40

Volvo has launched its much awaited entry luxury SUV, the XC40 in India, at an introductory price of INR 39.9 lacs. It will be available in the R-Design trim, with some class-leading technology and features.

Based on the Compact Modular Architecture, the XC40 is the first offering from Volvo in the entry-level SUV segment, thus completing the SUV line-up with a product in the every segment – compact, mid-size and full-size.

With its young and edgy design, the new XC40 sports the signature Thor’s hammer in a different rendition, a unique tail-lamp cluster and a sculpted exterior in 2-tone colour. Its exterior proportions give the XC40 a true SUV stance. The interior has a good mix of materials that exudes a plush feel, with black leather and lava orange faux-wool tones and a 9” touchscreen.

The intuitive touchscreen in the centre stack simplifies the user experience, with all functionalities ergonomically designed to keep the driver focused on driving. The Harmon Kardon powered 13-speakers 600W surround system provides a unique audio experience, with the woofer placed inside the dashboard for better acoustics. The cabin comes with leather seats as standard and the dashboard has piano black inserts around the touchscreen with aluminium inserts on the front for a very edgy and sporty feel.

Powered by a 2L 4-Cylinder Twin-Turbo D4 diesel producing 190hp and 400Nm of peak torque, the powertrain complies with stringent European and Indian emission norms. It has an 8-speed Geartronic gearbox and Haldex AWD with different drive modes – Eco, Comfort, Dynamic, Off-Road and Individual. Each of these provide a varied choice of settings, be it for a luxurious drive to work or an adventurous drive out on weekends.

In terms of safety, the XC40 has 7 airbags and is the only car in its segment to have radar based Active Safety features like City Safety with Steering Assist, active at speeds up to 50 kms. This feature avoids collision with other vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and large animals. Then there is the adaptive cruise control feature that lets the XC40 maintain a safe distance on highways. Other features like on-coming lane mitigation, driver alerts, run-off road protection and roll stability control complete the package.

Other salient features include a panoramic sunroof, induction charging for mobile phones, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, thoughtful and unique storage spaces, a 2-zone climate control, a 12.3” instrumentation cluster, distance alert feature, rear and front park assist pilot, diamond cut alloy wheel and power tail gate with hands-free opening and closing.

These features are standard in the XC40 R-Design, making it the best-equipped compact luxury SUV in the market. The XC40 will be available in Crystal White, Bursting Blue and Passion Red across dealerships in India.
