Aston Martin and LeECO collaborate to co-develop electric vehicle

Frankfurt, 17 February 2016: Technology company LeEco and luxury sports car brand Aston Martin have entered a partnership to develop a production version of the Aston Martin RapidE electric vehicle concept. LeEco will work closely with Aston Martin to develop the first electronic car that will be based on Aston’s Rapid S model, thereby adding a range of next-generation connected electric vehicles on behalf of LeEco, Aston Martin, and Faraday Future.

The Aston Martin RapidE concept was created to explore how the company can take an existing production vehicle and create an all-electric sports sedan. Aston Martin and Letv have been advancing the work on production feasibility including identification of technology solutions for battery systems and powertrain.

The RapidE electric vehicle is anticipated to be in the market by 2018.

While the new partnership will focus on development of low-emission vehicle technologies, the two companies already have an existing collaboration that has resulted in the Aston Martin Rapide S incorporating the latest Letv Internet of the Vehicle (IOV) system, which was unveiled in January 2016.
