Audi launches India’s first luxury sport performance estate RS6 Avant

New Delhi, 4 June 2015:  After expanding its product portfolio in India with the launch of the TT sports coupé earlier this year, Audi has gone one step further by introducing the all new RS6 Avant, a unique sports car with a body style never before seen in India. The performance car was launched by Joe King, Head of Audi India, and Indian cricket star Virat Kohli. The RS6 Avant is the estate version of Audi’s performance sedan, the RS6 and should open up a new market segment for the brand. Audi promised to launch 5 new cars in the next 5 months, and the RS6 is the first of many exciting offerings from the German manufacturer.

The Audi RS 6 Avant combines performance and dynamism with excellent everyday use practicality, and is the first sportscar in India with an Avant body style. As Virat Kohli said, “It’s the perfect everyday sports car for the family”.

Audi has been adventurous in its product mix so far, and set the trend of many firsts. They launched the first compact luxury sedan in India with the Audi A3, and the first compact luxury open top convertible came along in the form of Audi A3 Cabriolet. The limited edition Audi R8 LMX was India’s first production car with laser high beam lighting and Matrix LED headlights were introduced with the Audi A8 L. And now, the RS6 Avant is the first performance estate in the country and is likely to appeal to a niche segment of urban luxury connoisseurs in the country.

In terms of design, the RS6 Avant has sharp and sporty lines, and the low flowing roofline slopes back slightly to give the car a rugged SUV-ish look. The large single-piece front grille, huge 20 inch wheels and optional carbon fibre inlays give the RS6 a sporty persona, while the Matrix LED headlamps show Audi’s prowess in lighting technology. Though the Avant body style gives the car a distinct road presence and increases practicality, it does have its limitations and may look a bit dated a few years down the line.

In terms of performance, the RS6 Avant comes with a 4.0 litre Bi-Turbo V8 producing an astonishing 560 BHP and 700 Nm of torque. All this power means this performance estate car reaches 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds (with the Dynamic Package Plus), and has an optional top speed of either 280 km/h, or 305 km/h, depending on which package you choose. Either way, you can expect this car to outrun most sports cars on the track. In terms of handling, the RS6 Avant comes with Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system, so you can expect the car to have huge amounts of grip in the corners. Although it is a rather heavy car, the RS6 Avant should be a delight to drive on the track.

The sportiness of the RS6 Avant is offset by its impressive practicality. The car has a supremely well crafted interior which seats five people comfortably, and the boot has a volume of 565 litres, which increases to 1680 litres with the rear seats folded. The RS6 comes with a long list of customizable options, ranging from Audi Exclusive paint and leather options, to Dynamic Packages which further enhance the car’s performance. All that, comes for a hefty premium.

The RS6 Avant has been launched at an ex-showroom price of INR 1.35 crore. Prepare to shell out more for all the customization that you would most certainly require.
