#MakeinIndia: Volvo rolls out the first locally assembled XC90 in India

Bengaluru, 10 October 2017: Volvo has rolled out its first assembled car, the luxurious XC90 today from its Bengaluru plant. The decision to assemble its models locally is in sync with the ‘Make in India’ initiative, and should benefit customers in the long run.

The assembly operations in India will focus on models based on Volvo’s SPA modular vehicle architecture, and more models are likely to roll out soon. The car division is using Volvo Group India’s existing infrastructure and production licenses in India, which already has its truck, bus, construction equipment and Penta engines manufacturing facility here.

The last three years have been positive for Volvo in India, with new model roll outs and new dealer appointments. The company now aims to achieve 10% segment share by 2020.
