With a length of 4.73 meters and a wheelbase of 2.82 meters the new Audi A4 has a flowing design with a wide and low single frame grille, LED headlights and rear dynamic turn indicators. It boasts of a low drag coefficient of 0.25 which is also the best in its class.
Inside, the quality of workmanship remains uncompromising, with the front of the dashboard featuring a broad band of air outlets and a large decorative surface. The upper edges of the dashboard and the door trim border the interior in a wrap-around style with a continuous air vent strip. Space is generous and comfortable for both front and rear passengers.
The driver focused Audi Virtual Cockpit has a fully digital dashboard, with navigation arrows, dynamic animations and infotainment features. The 31.24cm LCD displays information in high-resolution graphics in two view modes, Classic and Progressive.
The new MMI display and control is intuitive and has a smartphone interface and wireless charging feature. The main control in the center console is newly designed to assist with the infotainment system and navigation, all of which is displayed in a 21cm monitor. It has a touchpad in the rotary controller to zoom in and out and to enter characters. The system works like a smartphone and includes a free-text search function. The voice-control system is improved, with the ability to understand inputs in normal everyday language. It also offers eight freely programmable favorite buttons to activate various features in a single touch.
The smartphone interface is a new feature that integrates iOS and Android phones into an environment developed especially for this purpose. The phone box connects smartphones to the on-board antenna and charges them inductively. It brings Apple Car Play and Android Auto on board, so when a user plugs an iOS or Android device into the USB port (iOS 7.1 and above, Android 5.0 Lollipop and above), contents such as navigation, telephone, music and selected third-party apps can be accessed in a separate MMI menu. The contents can be easily used via MMI or voice control.
The powertrain and chassis of the new A4 have been completely redeveloped and the handling is sporty and performance oriented, with a focus on everyday comfort. The suspension and steering filter out uneven road surface, and the transmission now offers a fuel-saving freewheeling function called “Coasting Mode”. The Audi Drive Select feature comes with four driving modes: Auto, Comfort, Individual and Dynamic.
Overall, the new A4 has more technical finesse and comfort, high class infotainment, and a sophisticated engine unit that packs more performance with improved efficiency and drivability. Which makes it quite a powerful package in its segment.
