#AutoExpo2016: Jaguar XE launched in India at a price of INR 39.90 lacs
The XE combines dynamic design, performance and luxurious interiors with the sporting character of the acclaimed Jaguar F-TYPE. A performance car with responsive handling and a luxury car with beautiful design, the XE has two petrol engine derivatives – a 2.0L 147 kW Turbocharged Petrol and 2.0L 177 kW Turbocharged Petrol meshed with 8-speed electronic automatic transmission. The 2.0L 177 kW petrol engine achieves a class-leading acceleration of 0-100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds.
The exterior has F-TYPE inspired design cues with the signature ‘J-Blade’ running lights, while the strongly-sculpted bonnet gives a taut, muscular appearance. The steeply raked windscreen and rising waistline accentuate the streamlined, coupe-like profile, adding to the sense of movement.
The interior is spacious, luxurious and impeccably well styled. The cockpit has a 20.32 cm touchscreen which takes centre stage in the sweeping curves of the instrument panel. Directly ahead of the driver, are two large, sports-car analogue dials and message centre inspired by F-TYPE. The contour-hugging front seats are mounted low, creating a sports-car like driving position. In the rear, occupants have generous amounts of head and legroom, and the deeply scalloped seatbacks liberate even more space for rear passengers. Throughout, the soft natural forms of the interior architecture lend themselves to a choice of contemporary or traditional materials and finishes. Technical fabrics, fine-grain leathers with tonal stitch give the cabin a bespoke quality. Gloss black or embossed aluminum finish further enhances the luxurious, handcrafted feel.
The All-New Jaguar XE is the first of the new generation of Jaguar cars to be based on the all-new aluminum intensive architecture, which uses expertise derived from the aero- space industry to deliver premium vehicle characteristics in performance, handling and refinement.
The Torque Vectoring by Braking finds its way into the XE as well. The technology has been proven on the Jaguar F-TYPE Coupé and is now standard on the XE. This high-tech innovation mitigates the onset of understeer by lightly braking individual inner wheels as required to help keep the car on the optimum line through corners. Intervention is subtle and barely noticed by the driver, who benefits from more neutral handling, reduced steering effort and, ultimately, a more rewarding driving experience.
Other features include Dynamic Stability Control, Electric Powered Assisted Steering and All Surface Progress Control, which is a low speed cruise control, operating at speeds between 3.6 km/h and 30 km/h. It helps cope with low traction situations whatever the weather. The system also has a pull-away function allowing the XE to move away from rest on slippery surfaces, as well as a hill descent function that controls vehicle speed on steeper inclines.
The Jaguar XE would be available in 7 colour options: Polaris White, Rhodium Silver, Blue Fire, Dark Sapphire, Odyssey Red, Italian Racing Red and Ultimate Black.
