The new Volkswagen Tiguan premieres at Frankfurt today

Wolfsburg/Frankfurt, 14 September 2015: After selling over 2.64 million units of the first generation, Volkswagen is revealing the latest generation of its SUV Tiguan at today’s Group Night at the The International Motor Show (IAA) that begins tomorrow in Frankfurt.

Volkswagen is showing four production versions of the new Tiguan – the sporty Tiguan R-Line, the classic on-road model, a specially tuned off-road version, and the Tiguan GTE which is a concept vehicle with a plug-in hybrid drive (160 kW / 218 PS of system power).

A range of eight powertrains are available with power outputs ranging between 85 kW / 115 PS and 176 kW / 240 PS. The drives are more powerful, yet are up to 24 per cent more fuel-efficient.

It comes with the new 4MOTION Active Control, that allows drivers to adjust the all-wheel drive system individually for all possible driving conditions. Front Assist with City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring, Lane Assist and the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System are standard across models. Online services open up new service dimensions such as automatic accident notification, online traffic & parking space info and vehicle status report. The on-board electronics integrate Apple and Android smartphone functionality via App Connect, and even tablets become an integral part of the automobile via the Media Control app.

The new Tiguan is based on the MQB (modular transverse matrix) platform, has sporty body proportions and weights 50 kgs less than its predecessor. It has a boot volume of 615 ltrs. which can go up to 1,655 ltrs. with the rear seats folded.
