Spectacular reveal of the Jaguar F-Pace: the SUV with the soul of a sports car

Frankfurt Niederrad Racecourse, 14 September 2015: Legendary stunt driver Terry Grant made a dramatic gravity defying entry in a Jaguar F-Pace to mark its first reveal. He performed a record-breaking 360 degree loop stunt, a day ahead of the global motor show debut of the F-PACE in Frankfurt. The extraordinary feat showcased the powerful design of the lightweight SUV, and its ability to combine agility with sports car speed and performance. Watch the video of the dynamic reveal that saw the F-PACE breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest ever ‘loop-the-loop’, as it withstood extreme forces of 6.5G (greater than the forces experienced by space shuttle pilots) to complete the 19.08 mtr tall loop.

The F-PACE is touted as the world’s most practical sports car, and is Jaguar’s first performance SUV and family sports car. It has a strong, stiff and lightweight aluminum architecture that delivers agility, refinement and efficiency. The light, stiff body structure comprises 80 per cent aluminum, and is the only aluminum-intensive monocoque in the segment.

At 4,731mm long and with a 2,874mm wheelbase, the F-PACE offers the sleek profile and short front overhang characteristic of Jaguar design together with a spacious interior, to bring out perhaps the most balanced and attractive vehicle in its class. It’s a perfect amalgamation of performance, design and technology, which can enthrall five adults inside the cabin with its driving dynamics, and has an astonishing 650 ltr. space for utilities and luggage.

It comes with 22-inch Double Helix 15-spoke wheels with Grey finish and contrast inserts, Adaptive Dynamics, full-LED headlights, Gloss Black fender vents and a sliding panoramic roof.

Inside, the Windsor soft-grain leather seats in Light Oyster feature twin-needle stitching and an embossed houndstooth pattern. The traditional Jaguar craftsmanship blends seamlessly with the configurable 10-colour ambient lighting,  and the world’s most-advanced in-car entertainment system, matched with super-fast wifi connectivity. The premium InControl Touch Pro system has a 10.2″ touchscreen, powered by a powerful quad-core processor and solid-state drive, and runs on ultra-fast Ethernet. The wifi hotspot can connect up to eight devices at one time. The navigation system in the vehicle is intuitive and stores your regular commute, offers door-to-door guidance, can inform others of your arrival time, and can be blown up to full-screen 3D in the 12.3″ HD virtual instrument cluster.

According to Ian Callum, Director for Design at Jaguar, “It is is an SUV, with the soul of a sports car.” The F-PACE delivers on the promise of the breakthrough C-X17 concept and combines purity of line, surface and proportion with F-TYPE-inspired features such as powerful rear haunches, fender vents and distinctive tail light graphics. The bold front grille, muscular bonnet and short front overhang carry the design vision of the C-X17 through to production.

To celebrate the launch, a special model called the First Edition will be available in limited numbers in the first year of production. It will be powered by the 380PS supercharged V6 petrol and 300PS V6 diesel engines, and distinguished by two unique metallic paint colours – Caesium Blue and Halcyon Gold, apart from Rhodium Silver and Ultimate Black.

The vehicle has an acceleration of 0-60 mph in just 5.1 seconds, before reaching an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph. The torque on-demand all-wheel drive (AWD) system is Jaguar’s most sophisticated yet, and features Intelligent Driveline Dynamics which preserves rear-wheel drive agility and handling character, but seamlessly transfers torque to the front wheels to exploit the performance benefits of extra traction, on all surfaces and in all weathers.

The Adaptive Surface Response makes the AWD system even more effective in challenging conditions. Integrated into Jaguar Drive Control, ASR identifies the type of surface and optimises the mapping of the powertrain and Dynamic Stability Control system. The ASR has been enhanced by a third mode designed for deep snow and gravel. Additional technologies available to ensure for all surface performance include the existing Jaguar systems; All Surface Progress Control and Low Friction Launch.

The F-PACE meets the most stringent safety standards worldwide and provides exceptional levels of occupant and pedestrian protection. A state-of-the-art stereo camera at the heart of the Autonomous Emergency Braking system now features a pedestrian detection function – a Jaguar-first. The stereo camera also enables Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, an Intelligent Speed Limiter, and Driver Condition Monitor systems. Key information such as vehicle speed and speed limits can be projected directly on to the laser head-up display that remains clear even in bright sunlight.

The F-PACE also marks the debut of Jaguar’s Activity Key – a wearable piece of technology. It is a waterproof, shockproof wristband with an integrated transponder. This segment-first device supports active lifestyles as it allows the keyfob to be securely locked inside the vehicle – invaluable if you’re going surfing or kayaking. Locking the all-new F-PACE using the Activity Key will disable any keyfobs left inside.

The F-PACE will be manufactured at Jaguar Land Rover’s UK Solihull Plant. The range consists of: F-PACE Pure, F-PACE Prestige, F-PACE Portfolio, F-PACE R-Sport, F-PACE S, F-PACE First Edition.

The powertrain range will consist of: 180PS 2.0-litre diesel manual RWD/ AWD and automatic AWD; 240PS 2.0-litre petrol automatic RWD; 300PS 3.0-litre diesel automatic AWD; 340PS and 380PS 3.0-litre petrol automatic AWD.
