Mercedes Benz launches India’s most powerful SUV: the GL63 AMG

Mumbai, 15 April 2014: Mercedes Benz has launched the flagship variant of its GL Class in India, the immensely powerful GL63 AMG. Powered by a 5.5 litre bi-turbo V8 that gives out 555 BHP and 760 Nm of torque, this is the most powerful SUV to be launched in India. Paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission, the car reaches 100 Km/h in 4.9 seconds and has a limited top speed of 250kph. Super car performance from a car that can carry seven people with ease.

Speaking at the launch in Mumbai, Eberhard Kern, MD and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said, “The GL 63 AMG packs the perfect blend of style, luxury, sportiness and performance driving which are associated with the Mercedes-Benz and AMG brands. According to him, the company plans to continue the new model offensive with the GLA compact SUV expected later this year. The GL63 has been launched at a price of INR 1.66 crore (ex-showroom Mumbai) and does not have any real competition, except perhaps the Range Rover Sport and the Cayenne Turbo, which is a bit more expensive than this one.

Mercedes-Benz is celebrating its ‘Year of Excellence’ and the luxury carmaker plans to launch no less than 10 new offerings in India.
