Audi launches the new Q3 in India – 28 April 2012: German luxury carmaker Audi is all set to launch the Audi Q3 in the Indian market. Recognizable as the baby brother of the Audi Q7 and Audi Q5 which are already dominating the luxury SUV market in India, the Q3 is the cheapest Audi you could get, and is expected to further strengthen the brand’s dominance in the luxury SUV segment in India.
Audi is already firmly entrenched as the fastest growing luxury brand in the country. It remains one of the most reputed brands in the world, and is known for its impeccable quality and reliable engineering. The Audi Q3 is a compact, sporty, efficient, versatile and stylish urban vehicle that would appeal to the growing set of young, successful go getters across urban cities. With great looks and built quality, it incorporates Audi’s latest LED technology and uses the Quattro all wheel drive system for some off road abilities. However, it largely remains a city vehicle and is expected to be an able highway cruiser. The car will be feature packed, incorporating some of the features from the latest A6 and Q5 and many other solutions that are straight from the luxury class. The Audi Q3 is centered around the theme of ‘Start Young’ and positioned as a practical companion for everyday. It impressed me when it was showcased at the Auto Expo this year. Of course it is another matter that Katrina Kaif caused a mini tsunami when she came to unveil the model.
The Q3 will have two engine options, a 2.0 TDI diesel and 2.0 TFSI petrol motor. The diesel will have all wheel drive and an output of 177 bhp. The front wheel variant of the diesel will have about 140 bhp and will be launched later. The 2.0 ltr TFSI motor will have a power output of 170 bhp and will be able to do a top speed of 230 km/h. The car will be priced between Rs.25 to 30 lacs, and that puts it in the league of the BMW X1. The Q3 is certainly miles ahead of the X1; with an all wheel drive, more power, better interiors and is certainly better equipped.
So what will you choose? A top of the line Honda CRV, the BMW X1 or wait for the Audi Q3? My guess is that Audi will sweep the segment. The initial excitement that it raked up gives me a sense that this is going to be a hot favourite for the young achievers who would like a slice of the Q life and a bit of the Audi luxury to flaunt.
