Nissan GRAVITE: The Japanese Giant Bets Big on India Again

A new 7-seat MPV kicks off what Nissan hopes is a proper comeback story.
Nissan has been relatively quiet in India for a while. The Magnite kept the lights on, but the brand needed a statement. On 17th February 2026 in Udaipur, that statement arrived in the form of the all-new GRAVITE. A 7-seater MPV priced from INR 5.65 lacs ex-showroom. The first salvo in what Nissan is calling a full product offensive in India.
It’s manufactured locally in Chennai, which matters both for pricing and optics. This isn’t a half-hearted import play. Nissan wants back in.
What It Looks Like
The GRAVITE’s design is built around Nissan’s signature C-shaped motif, carried through both the front and rear. The stance is upright and muscular, with pronounced wheel arches, high ground clearance, elevated proportions. It gets all-round LED treatment: signature headlamps with integrated DRLs, Crystal Edge LED tail lamps, LED fog lamps, and a Piano Black 2D grille. Roof rails are functional, and the doors open wide. A thoughtful touch for a family hauler.
One design detail worth noting: the GRAVITE is the only vehicle in its segment with distinctive hood branding and unique rear-door badging. It’s a bold call, but it does give the car an unmistakable identity on the road.
Five exterior colours are available: Forest Green, Onyx Black, Blade Silver, Storm White, and Metallic Grey.
Inside: Space is the Headline
The cabin is where the GRAVITE makes its strongest argument. Seating configurations run from 2 to 7, and the third-row seats are removable, freeing up 625 litres of boot space. In 6-seater configuration, you get 320 litres; in full 7-seat mode, 84 litres. It’s a practical, real-world setup for Indian families who use their cars for everything from school runs to highway road trips.
Seats are upholstered in premium suede and leatherette with quilted detailing. Shoulder, elbow, head, and knee room are generous across all three rows. The cabin also gets a tropicalised AC with three-row vents, separate second-row AC controls, a first-row armrest, and neck supports. Storage is well thought out, with cooled lower and upper glove boxes, a cooled centre console, and multiple compartments throughout.
Tech and Connectivity
The infotainment is a floating 20.32 cm touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The instrument cluster is a 17.78 cm full-digital unit. Wireless charging, auto LED headlamps with a follow-me-home function, Walk Away Lock, Approach Unlock, and front and rear parking sensors round out the tech package. Nothing groundbreaking, but everything you’d expect at this price point. And it’s all present as standard across variants.
Safety
Thirty-plus standard safety features is a meaningful number. The list includes 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control, Hill-Start Assist, Brake Assist, ABS with EBD, and seat belt reminders for all occupants. For a family MPV starting under INR 6 lacs, the safety spec is genuinely competitive.
The Engine
Under the hood is a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine making 72PS and 96Nm. It’s a modest output figure, but this is a people-mover, not a performance car. Two gearbox options are on offer: a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed EZ-Shift AMT. Fuel efficiency is rated at 19.3 km/l for the manual and 19.6 km/l for the AMT. Quite respectable numbers for a 7-seater.
Limited Launch Edition
Early buyers get access to a Limited Launch Edition, which bundles in JBL premium speakers, a dual dash cam, air purifier, ambient mood lighting, neck and lumbar cushions, C-shaped aero accents, wheel arch aero inserts, drift flow graphics, door visors, chrome beltline, and chrome gear bezel. It’s a generous pack, and some of it, particularly the JBL audio and dash cam, is genuinely useful.
Pricing
The variant lineup runs as follows: Visia at INR 5.65 lacs, Acenta at INR 6.59 lacs, N-Connecta at INR 7.20 lacs, Tekna at INR 7.91 lacs, N-Connecta AMT at INR 7.80 lacs, and Tekna AMT at INR 8.49 lacs (all ex-showroom).
What Comes Next
The GRAVITE is Nissan’s second major India model, building on the Magnite’s foundation. A Tekton C-SUV is due in mid-2026, followed by a 7-seater C-SUV in early 2027. The roadmap is starting to look credible.
At this price, the GRAVITE goes up against the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Kia Carens. A tough neighbourhood. But the combination of 7-seat flexibility, a strong safety spec, and competitive pricing gives Nissan a fighting chance. Whether it’s enough to announce a genuine comeback remains to be seen, but at least the conversation has started.
