BMW X3 30 xDrive M Sport Pro: More Power, Same Ambition
The X3 gets a bigger engine and a bolder personality. And it’s Made in India.
BMW India has added a new variant to the X3 lineup, and it’s the one performance-focussed buyers have been waiting for. The X3 30 xDrive M Sport Pro lands in India at INR 74.50 lacs (ex-showroom), joining the existing xDrive 20 petrol and xDrive 20d diesel to complete the X3 range. It’s locally produced at BMW Group Plant Chennai, a detail that keeps pricing in check and indicates long-term commitment to the market.
The Numbers That Matter
Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo petrol engine pushing out 258hp and 400Nm of torque, available from 1,600 rpm all the way to 4,600 rpm. The 0-100 km/h sprint takes 6.3 seconds. An 8-speed Steptronic automatic handles gear changes, with paddle shifters for when you want to take control. Standard 48V mild-hybrid technology sharpens throttle response and makes the auto start-stop function noticeably smoother. Sport and Sport Plus modes are on offer for those who want to explore the car’s more dynamic side.
Adaptive suspension with electronically controlled dampers comes as standard, automatically adjusting to the driving situation. In Sport mode, it firms up for sharper handling; in the comfort-oriented modes, it settles into a more relaxed cadence. BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system manages traction and stability continuously, backed by Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, and Dynamic Traction Control.
Size and Stance
The X3 30 is the longest, widest, and tallest car in its segment: 4,755 mm in length, 2,865 mm wheelbase, 1,920 mm wide, 1,660 mm tall. In a segment where road presence matters, the X3 genuinely commands attention. The fully blacked-out kidney grille with Iconic Glow illumination sets the tone upfront, flanked by projector-based Adaptive LED headlights with cornering function, which is a meaningful upgrade over the reflector setups more common at this price. The M Aerodynamic package adds larger front air intakes, and 20″ M alloy wheels with red M Sport brake callipers complete the visual package. Darkened split rear lights in a double-L shape and a High Gloss Black rear diffuser keep things looking sharp from behind.
Inside: Clean, Premium, Well-Equipped
The interior is built around BMW’s Curved Display: a 12.3″ instrument cluster paired with a 14.9″ central touchscreen, running BMW Operating System 9 with the latest iDrive QuickSelect interface. Navigation through menus is direct, without unnecessary submenus, and the system responds well to both touch and voice inputs. A fully customisable head-up display comes as standard.
The seats are upholstered in Veganza, BMW’s vegan leather made from sustainable materials. The front Sports Seats offer active ventilation, lumbar adjustment, and backrest width adjustment for the driver, the last being a feature unique to the X3 in its segment. The panoramic glass sunroof is the largest in segment. A Harman Kardon surround sound system with 15 speakers and 750 watts handles the audio duties, and is genuinely excellent at this price point.
The instrument panel is wrapped in Sensatec. An ambient Jewelry Box ahead of the gear selector uses subtle lighting to accent the centre console. Rear passengers get roller sunblinds. The Travel & Comfort System enables seamless device connectivity. BMW Digital Key Plus lets you use your smartphone as a car key and share access with up to 18 users, which is useful for households with multiple drivers.
Driver Assistance
Driving Assistant Plus is standard, covering Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Departure Warning, and Lane Keep Assist. Parking Assistant Plus adds fully automated parking with surround view camera, along with two segment-first features: BMW Reversing Assistant and BMW Drive Recorder. Eight airbags, Dynamic Stability Control, Cornering Brake Control, and electronic immobiliser round out the safety package.
Colour and Upholstery
Five exterior colours are available: Brooklyn Grey Metallic, Dune Grey Metallic, Alpine White, Individual Tanzanite Blue, and Black Sapphire Metallic. Interior upholstery comes in Veganza Perforated Espresso Brown or Veganza Perforated Calm Beige.
The Verdict
The X3 has always been the rational choice in the luxury mid-size SUV space. Composed, capable, and well-built. The 30 xDrive variant adds genuine performance to that equation without compromising on the refinement that defines the nameplate. At INR 74.50 lacs, it positions itself against the Volvo XC60, Audi Q5, and Mercedes GLC, all strong competitors. But with the combination of the most powerful engine in the range, segment-leading dimensions, and a well-stacked features list, this is BMW’s most compelling X3 yet.
The BMW X3 30 xDrive M Sport Pro is priced at INR 74.50 lacs (ex-showroom). Bookings are open at all BMW dealerships across India.
