The Range Rover Velar arrives in India. #ShotOnHonor7X

On a balmy Saturday afternoon at the lawns of the British High Commissioner’s residence in New Delhi, Land Rover unveiled the much-awaited Range Rover Velar in India for the first time. The global reveal of Velar took place a few months back and ever since, it has been one of the most awaited luxury SUVs in India.

Velar is the fourth model in the Range Rover family and embodies the familiarity of pedigree with progressive leaps in refinement, technology and performance. Positioned between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport, Velar completes Land Rover’s product portfolio, which now has a luxury SUV for every customer need.

Derived from the Latin word Velare meaning ”veil’, Velar is a direct reference to the code name used on the original, pre-production Range Rovers of the late 1960s. Available in three powertrains, a 2.0L 4-cylinder 132 kW diesel, a 2.0L 4-cylinder 184 kW petrol, and a 3.0L V6 221 kW diesel, the luxury SUV offers exceptional refinement and all-terrain capability, with improved performance.

Velar is a progression in Range Rover’s evolving design. A study in minimalism and visual simplicity. It is dramatic in its mould, posture and controlled aggression, and does away with over the top histrionics. It exudes a sense of precision, craftsmanship and quality and has been created through elegant simplicity and a visually reductive approach. Capabilities however are unquestionable.

Beautifully balanced with optimised proportions, Velar gets a foil-stamped grille, sleek LED headlights and rear lights. Adding to its striking design are the flush deployable door handles and integrated rear spoiler for improved aerodynamic efficiency. At the rear, the vehicle’s design is distinguished by quad tail light signature elements with the iconic Range Rover script.

The interior design architecture blends clean lines with technology and understated luxury. The strong and elegant horizontal lines blend seamlessly with innovative features, with some of the finest vehicle interior materials on display. The optional Windsor leather with a signature Cut Diamond pattern throughout the cabin, is a highlight that lends a contemporary twist.

The centrepiece of the interior is the twin-screen, (10) Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, which combines a rake-adjustable upper touchscreen with a second screen in the main console between the seats, which retreats to a solid, opaque darkness until required. Between the two screens, which are linked allowing occupants to move content between the two with a flick of a finger, nearly every non-dynamic feature in the vehicle can be controlled.

Velar’s intelligent, efficient, torque-on-demand all-wheel-drive (AWD) system delivers exceptional all-terrain performance and agility with outstanding ride quality and composure. With a suite of traction systems, including Terrain Response 2 and All-Terrain Progress Control (ATPC), Velar offers class-leading composure and control. It has a compelling list of standard features and highly customisable options, setting a new benchmark towards vehicle personalisation.

Prices for the Velar start from INR 78.83 Lacs in India and vehicle deliveries start with immediate effect.
