Mercedes-Benz V-Class Extra LWB: The Private Suite Gets Wheels

Posted on

There’s a growing tribe of well-heeled Indians who’d rather be driven than drive. For whom the back seat is the office, the sanctuary, and the first-class cabin. All-in-one. Mercedes-Benz has clearly been paying attention, because the all-new V-Class Extra LWB, launched in Mumbai on 2nd March 2026, is a direct answer to exactly that brief.

At INR 1.4 crore ex-showroom (introductory price), the V-Class arrives as a six-seater luxury MPV in its extra-long wheelbase configuration: 5,370 mm long, 3,430 mm wheelbase. These aren’t just numbers. Inside, they translate to the kind of legroom and cabin real estate that most private jets would struggle to compete with.

Two Engines, One Personality

For the first time in India, the V-Class is available in petrol. A notable debut. Buyers get to choose between a 1,999 cc petrol unit producing 228 bhp (with a 20 bhp mild hybrid assist) and a 1,951 cc diesel making 233 bhp. Both come mated to Mercedes-Benz’s smooth 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox. Performance isn’t the point here. Refinement is. And both engines serve that purpose well.

What’s genuinely worth calling out is the AIRMATIC air suspension. India is, in fact, the first market globally to get this on both powertrain options. Given the variable quality of Indian roads, this isn’t a marketing footnote; it’s a meaningful engineering decision. The suspension adapts automatically, keeps the ride composed, and selectable drive programmes mean the car can be dialled up or down depending on what the road demands.

The Cabin: Where the Real Story Is

The V-Class is built around its interior, and Mercedes-Benz hasn’t cut corners. Row two gets the headline treatment with individual luxury seats, three-stage ventilation, massage, calf support, deployable cupholders, and wireless charging. Row three, however, is where the V-Class quietly makes history: it is the first vehicle in its class to offer ventilated seats in the third row. Add 3-point seat belts, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and USB charging, and the third row stops feeling like an afterthought. The front seats are electrically adjustable and ventilated too.

The cabin ambience is handled by 64-colour ambient lighting, THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control, and heat-insulating glass with a sunblind. Audio duties go to a Burmester surround sound system with Dolby Atmos: 15 loudspeakers, a bass reflex box, and 640W of output. The ENERGIZING Comfort programme offers ten wellness modes, including nature soundscapes, for when you’d rather decompress than arrive wired. Electric sliding doors on both sides can be triggered via key, exterior handle, driver seat, or door panel button. The split tailgate opens electrically, which is quite useful in tight parking situations.

The AMG Line Treatment

On the outside, the V-Class gets the full AMG Line package as standard: star-pattern radiator grille, LED light strip, AMG ventilation grilles, logo projector, and 18″ AMG alloy wheels. MULTIBEAM LED headlamps with 84 individually controllable LEDs come standard too. Five exterior colours are on offer: Metallic Sodalite Blue, Rock Crystal White, Obsidian Black, High-Tech Silver, and Alpine Grey. Upholstery choices are Lugano Leather in Beige or Black.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Seven standard airbags, including window airbags running A to D pillar, make this the safest offering in its segment. The driver assistance suite includes Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and a driver attention camera with ATTENTION ASSIST. The parking package rounds things off with a 360° camera, 12 ultrasonic sensors, Active Parking Assist, and 3D surround view.

Made in India

Mercedes-Benz India will locally produce the V-Class. It’s their second product announced for local production this year, after the Maybach GLS. A meaningful commitment for a vehicle in this niche.

Bookings are open at INR 5.0 lacs, which locks in the introductory price. Existing Mercedes-Benz customers get priority delivery.

This class of luxury MPV has found its tribe: movie stars, rappers, industrialists, politicians, and others of their ilk have made it a fixture in the premium mobility space. The Toyota Velfire and Lexus LM have quietly carved out a loyal following among India’s elite over the last few years. Mercedes-Benz, with the V-Class, is now coming for a slice of that market, and it has announced its arrival with a considerably more loaded hand.

The Mercedes-Benz V-Class Extra LWB is priced at INR 1.4 crore ex-showroom (introductory), available in Diesel V300d and Petrol V300 variants.
