Auto Expo 2023 – Day 2 Round up

The 16th Edition Auto Expo – The Motor Show 2023, was officially inaugurated on Day 2 at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida by Shri Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Government of India and Shri Mahendra Nath Pandey, Union Minister for Heavy Industries, Government of India. Also present at the inauguration were Mr. Vinod Aggarwal, President, SIAM; Mr. Sanjay Kapur, President ACMA ; Mr. Sanjiv Bajaj, President CII ; Mr. Gurpratap Boparai, Chairman, SIAM Trade Fair Council ; Mr. Rajesh Menon, Director General SIAM and Mr. Vinnie Mehta, Director General, ACMA.

Highlights of Day 2:

  • MG Motors showcases its new energy vehicle (NEVs) with world’s first hydrogen fuel cell MPV – EUNIQ 7
  • Maruti Suzuki unveils two new SUVs – FRONX and the legendary JIMNY. The newly launched SUV featured high-end powertrain technologies and the best of Suzuki’s SUV lineage.

MG Motors:

Demonstrating the future of mobility in India with a greater focus on sustainability, MG Motor India showcased new energy vehicles (NEVs) with its third-generation hydrogen fuel cell technology, at the Auto Expo 2023. The world-leading hydrogen fuel-cell system underlines MG’s commitment to providing clean and efficient travel based on green, renewable power sources. The company unveiled the MG EUNIQ 7, a hydrogen fuel-cell powered premium MPV, which not only has zero carbon emissions as it only emits water but also performs like an air purifier does, purifying air equivalent to 150 adults breathing in just one hour of driving. 

Maruti Suzuki:

Featuring high-end powertrain technologies and the best of Suzuki’s SUV lineage, both FRONX and JIMNY aim to strengthen Maruti Suzuki’s SUV line-up.

The sporty compact SUV FRONX introduces a new dimension to the segment with its fresh design, spirited performance, advanced technology and safety features. Conceptualized, designed and developed in India for young aspirational car buyers, FRONX pioneers a ‘Shape of New’ compact SUVs in the country. It is is based on the Baleno platform and for context, can be referred to as a Baleno Cross with Grand Vitara’s styling inputs. Aimed at young trailblazers, FRONX has an aerodynamic silhouette, an upright stance and a sloping rear, with roof rails and a wide bonnet to give it a commanding road presence. Chiselled wheel arches, muscular fenders, side body cladding, a signature NEXWave grille, chrome garnish, and signature crystal block DRLs exemplify its youthful contemporary appeal and sportiness. The rear comes with a sculpted upright profile accentuated by wide sweeping LED Rear Combination Lamps running across the width of the vehicle. The FRONX also gets a dual-finish bold step type geometric design for the precision cut alloy wheels that complement its overall dynamic design. FRONX is powered with two engine options – the all-new 1.0L K-series Turbo Boosterjet Direct Injection engine with Progressive Smart Hybrid technology, and the Advanced 1.2L K-series Dual Jet, Dual VVT engine which offers Idle Start Stop technology.

The legendary JIMNY on the other hand, is an all terrain 4×4 built on the 4 essentials of an off-road machine – Ladder Frame Chassis, Ample Body Angles, 3-link rigid axle suspension and ALLGRIP PRO (4WD) with low range transfer gear (4L mode). Carrying forward its strong legacy of over 50 years of global success, the JIMNY is an off-road machine built for purpose, that can navigate treacherous terrains, manoeuvre through dense woods, and conquer the toughest terrains with ease. Additionally, it offers a comfortable ride as a daily driver. Powered by the proven K-series 1.5-litre engine – delivering 104Ps @ 6000rpm and 134Nm torque @ 4000rpm – with Idle Start Stop technology, the JIMNY offers unrivalled agility, thanks to optimised torque delivery, complemented by specially tuned 5-speed Manual and 4-speed Automatic Transmission options.
