Mahindra has announced the name of its new MPV which was codenamed U321. The vehicle, designed by the Mahindra Design Studio and Italian design house Pininfarina, will be called ‘Marazzo’.

Derived from Basque, a sub-language of Spanish, the word ‘Marazzo’ means shark and is linked to the vehicle’s shark-inspired design. The inspiration is evident in the streamlined and aerodynamic shape, in the overall silhouette and in the front grille inserts which resemble shark-like teeth. The design cues further flow into the tail lamps that are inspired by the shark tail.

Marazzo is a globally developed product, engineered through a collaboration between Mahindra North America Technical Centre (MNATC) and Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai. A new level of refinement and engineering excellence is expected in the Marazzo, which comes with a patented architecture that promises a unique balance of smooth ride, agile handling, space and quiet cabin.

Marazzo would feature global specs and is being developed to compete in the international markets. It would have best-in-class cooling, high safety standards and a tough body construction, with the largest footprint (wheelbase x front track) of any Mahindra vehicle.

Benchmarked against global standards of quality, technology, testing and validation norms, safety, regulations and emission, it has undergone rigorous testing and will be manufactured at the company’s facility at Nasik, in Maharashtra.

The commercial launch is expected before the end of Q2 FY2019.
