#SkillIndia: Mercedes-Benz launches Mechatronics program with Delhi Government under PPP model

New Delhi, 25 October 2017: Mercedes-Benz India and G. B. Pant Institute of Technology have signed an MOU to start a one-year Advance Diploma in Automotive Mechatronics (ADAM) in Delhi. The aim is to impart skills and expertise in mechanical, electronics and informatics as well as other modern automation technologies and make the youth in Delhi employable. The MOU was exchanged on 25 October, 2017 at the Delhi Secretariat office in the presence of Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister, Government of N.C.T of Delhi and Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India.

This initiative of the Delhi Government brings the best of global companies to impart knowledge and provide hands on experience to students, so that they are ready for the world. Earlier the govt. has also made efforts to link vocational studies at the high school level, so that students acquire maximum knowledge on any subject matter of their interest.

Such collaborations between universities and the industry not just impart right education & skills, but also provide the industry with a base of trained human resources when required. India has a large youth demographic which gives it a unique edge. To sustain this competitive edge, they need both education & skill, that makes them employable and ready for the industry. Mechatronics will prepare them for the complex and real world dynamics of the automotive industry, and aspiring automotive technicians in Delhi will find the right platform to enhance their skills and get directly benefitted.

The Mechatronics training school at Mercedes-Benz India was started in the year 2002. The parent company Daimler AG, Germany along with Mercedes-Benz India and the Mercedes-Benz India dealership network joined hands to start the program and train students to address the requirements of Mercedes-Benz technology and innovation. Since its inception, over 540 students have successfully completed the program and have been placed within various organisations in India.

The Advance Diploma in Automotive Mechatronics (ADAM) will be offered under the Automobile Discipline of G. B. Pant Institute of Technology. The initial batch of 20 students will be on merit via an Entrance Test conducted by the college under the supervision of Mercedes-Benz. Engineering Degree/Diploma holders will be eligible to appear for the entrance test. Certificates for the successful students shall be jointly issued by the authorities of the college and the company. Mercedes-Benz India have already imparted training to the faculty members at the institute for more than a year, to prepare for the program.
