Kolkata Duo Sudip and Arindam Ghosh dominate the 4th Edition of JK Tyre Himalayan Drive
Siliguri, 04 February 2016: India’s only International Time-Speed-Distance Cross-Country Rally held in North Bengal and Bhutan, the JK Tyre Himalayan Drive, culminated after an intense five days.
Kolkata duo Sudip and Arindam Ghosh emerged champions in the 4th edition of the JK Tyre Himalyan Drive, notching 568 penalty seconds, just eight seconds short of their closest rivals Jogendra Kumar Jaiswal and Prasenjit Roy who had a score of 576 penalty seconds. Pratik Sirkar and Debasish Ghosh were placed third with a final score of 832 penalty seconds, while Rajiv Sarkar and Chandu Sekhar followed close behind with 836 penalty seconds to finish fourth.
Sudip and Arindam Ghosh built a sizeable lead over their closest rivals on the first two days of the five-day rally, slipped in the last three days, but eventually finished on top. The rally started from Siliguri’s City Center on Sunday, 28 February 2016 and culminated at the same venue on Thursday, 03 March 2016 afternoon. The rally route covered forests, tea gardens and riverbeds of North Bengal and the Duars, narrow roads skirting the precipitous mountain slopes of the eastern Himalayas, the picturesque Paro Valley in Bhutan, a high mountain pass and the verdant Darjeeling Hills.
Adventure motorsports in the Eastern Himalayan region are getting popular. The last three editions of the JK Tyre Himalayan Drive have seen growing interest amongst both participants and enthusiasts. Travelling through varied, challenging and extremely picturesque terrain in India and Bhutan, it has the support of the Govt. of West Bengal and GTA.
