Volkswagen unveils its first ever compact sedan AMEO ahead of Auto Expo 2016

New Delhi, 02 February 2016: Volkswagen makes its entry into the sub 4-metre compact sedan segment in India, with the launch of Ameo. The vehicle was unveiled today and will be showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 later this week.

Available in two engine options – 1.2L 3-cylinder MPI and 1.5L 4-cylinder TDI engine, the Volkswagen Ameo has been specifically designed and engineered for the Indian market and will be manufactured at their Chakan plant in Maharashtra. The pricing of the vehicle would be revealed closer to the launch, which is expected during the second half of 2016.

The Ameo is a vehicle of good proportions and pedigree. It is classic Volkswagen in terms of styling – nothing too fancy, yet timeless, sharp and distinctive with a sporty and dynamic stance. It brings superior build quality, high technology and safety standards to the compact sedan segment. All variants will come equipped with dual front airbags and ABS as standard. It promises class leading ride quality, handling and high-speed stability and is equipped with features like cruise control, rain sensing wipers, static cornering lights and a dynamic Touchscreen multimedia music system with Mirror link, I-pod connectivity, phonebook/SMS viewer. It also has a rear view camera with parking sensors, a front arm rest, climate control with dust & pollen filter, and rear AC vents.

The 1.2L MPI engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gear box, while the 1.5L TDI engine will be available with 5-speed manual transmission & 7-speed DSG transmission options.

During the next fiscal, Volkswagen plans to expand its range in India by launching 4 new models and put the emission scandal behind it. Till then, here are some more images of the Ameo.
