Delhi, 12 May 2015: After months of speculation, Volvo today unveiled the new XC90, their premium full size SUV. The previous generation XC90 was well loved for its superior comfort and safety, and had a hugely successful run across global markets. The launch of the new generation XC90 marks the beginning of a new chapter for Volvo, and paves the way for a series of exciting product launches by the company.

Speaking at the launch, Tomas Ernberg, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India said, “With the all-new Volvo XC90 we are not just launching a car, but re-launching our brand. An example of Volvo-by-Volvo, the new XC90 marks the beginning of a new chapter for Volvo Cars, capturing its future design direction, incorporating its own range of new technologies and utilising its new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA). Volvo has invested USD 11Bn to develop the product and engine platforms over the past 3 years.”

The new XC90 is Scandinavian in body and spirit, with the assurance of the Volvo badge of world-class safety. The exterior and interior carries a strong connection with the key elements of the Swedish lifestyle – generous space, the celebration of light and the focus on well-being.

The new XC90 will also be the first to carry the company’s new more prominent iron mark, which has the iconic arrow elegantly aligned with the diagonal slash across the grille. Together with the T-shaped “Thor’s Hammer” DRL lights, the iron mark introduces an entirely new, distinctive and confident face for Volvo’s forthcoming generation of cars.

The new XC90 is a striking car to look at, with its long bonnet, the belt line and the sharpened shoulders, new rear lights and other stylish design signatures. To add more visual muscle from the sides, the XC90 comes with a range of wheel sizes up to 20 inches.

The cabin is unarguably one of the most luxurious interiors offered in an SUV. A striking feature is the tablet-like touch screen control console, which forms the heart of an all-new in-car ‘Sensus’ system. This system is virtually button free and represents an entirely new way for drivers to control their car and access a range of Internet-based products and services. It also helps create an interior that is modern, spacious and uncluttered.

The engine powering the new XC90 is a 2.0L four-cylinder Drive-E power plant, which provides a commendable combination of performance and fuel-efficiency. This is among the cleanest SUVs the world has ever seen. And with 225 BHP and a whopping 470Nm of torque mated with the 8-Speed gearbox, the available power is delivered smoothly.

As a testament to Volvo’s illustrious history, the new XC90 comes with next generation safety systems designed to assist the driver in varying situations. Volvo hopes to set a new benchmark in vehicle safety with this car, just like it did with the original XC90 in 2002.

The audio system offered in the XC90 is certainly one of the best available – a 1,400Watt Class D amplifier and 19 Bowers & Wilkins speakers. It also includes one of the first air-ventilated subwoofers in a car – integrated into the car body, it turns the whole interior space into a giant subwoofer.

The new XC90 will be available in D5 Inscription and Momentum trims. Priced at INR 77.9 lacs (ex-showroom, Delhi without Octroi) for Inscription and at INR 64.9 lacs (ex-showroom, Delhi without Octroi) for Momentum, the Volvo New XC90 can be pre-ordered starting today. Deliveries will commence in September 2015.
