Iconic American motorcycle brand Indian Chief comes to town

New Delhi, 22 January 2014: Classic styling, true heritage and modern technology was unveiled today with the launch of Indian Motorcycle, the iconic American brand owned by Polaris Industries Inc., the world leader in off-road and All-Terrain Vehicles.

Indian Motorcycle is America’s first motorcycle company that was founded in 1901. Over time it has earned the distinction of being one of America’s most legendary and iconic brands through unrivalled racing dominance, engineering prowess and countless innovations and industry firsts.

Polaris India has brought in the entire Indian Motorcycle’s Chief range –Indian® Chief® Classic, Indian® Chief® Vintage and Indian® Chieftain™ to India and this marks the company’s foray into the motorcycle segment in the country.

The Chief range is powered by a Thunder Stroke™111™ (1811cc) engine that churns out 139 Nm of torque at 2600 rpm. The 49-degree V-Twin engine is the new heartbeat of Indian Motorcycle and marks the first clean-sheet Indian Motorcycle engine design in seven decades. With parallel pushrod tubes, finned heads, down firing exhausts, left side air intake, and the proportions and layout familiar to Indian Motorcycle fans around the world, the Thunder Stroke 111™ is sure to inspire both experienced and new riders.

Standard equipment includes ABS, cast aluminum frame with integrated Air-Ox, cruise control, keyless start, light bar and premium leather seats sourced from the original suppliers since the 1930’s. The  Indian® Chief® Vintage additionally has quick release vintage leather saddle bags that are made of needle stitched cowhide and comes with distinctive badging. The top of the line Indian® Chieftain™ is equipped with remote locking hard saddle bags, tyre pressure monitoring, 100 watt stereo with AM/FM Bluetooth and Smartphone compatibility. Clearly, heritage styling that is future ready.

Overall there is a lot of chrome that adds to the retro styling, combined with an extremely well finished paint job that feels like glass. The brand has a lot of style and swagger that would clearly appeal to the old and the new, and give customers a choice in the top end luxury biking segment.

Priced between Rs.26.50 to Rs.33 lacs (ex-showroom Delhi), the range will be sold through completely-built-up (CBU) route. The company plans to unveil its first showroom in Gurgaon shortly. Bookings start immediately and deliveries can be expected around mid March 2014 onwards.
