BMW gives the M5 a mid-life refresh

Posted on

27 May 2013: BMW recently refreshed the 5 Series and has now launched an updated version of the M5 as well. It has also introduced the ‘Competition Pack’ which upgrades power with some added features. The M5 was originally launched in 2012, and was such an amazing car that it is hard to imagine that it could get better. However, BMW say that the refreshed M5 would offer an even more engaging driving experience, and would truly make it the best sports saloon available in the market.

The Competition Pack will be available on the M5 as well as the M6. It features an upgraded version of the 4.4 ltr V8, with improved power from 552 BHP to 567 BHP. The 0-100 km/h time drops from 4.4s to 4.3s and the 0-200 km/h time is down from 13s to 12.8s.

The chassis has undergone some changes as well. The ride is now 10 mm lower and the M differential has been re-tuned for better traction. BMW has made the steering even more direct and has remapped the stability program.

The Competition Pack also adds new lightweight 20 inch alloy wheels, a sports exhaust with black chrome tail pipes, optional adaptive LED headlights and a new M sports steering wheel.

Pricing for the Competition Pack has not been released as yet, so watch this space for more updates.
