Mercedes Benz reveals the new E63 AMG

11 January 2013: Mercedes Benz has revealed images and stats for the new E63 AMG, and confirmed that the launch will take place at this year’s Detroit Motor Show. This release has come after Mercedes revealed their new E Class sedan, coupe and cabriolet models.

The new E63 remains true to its AMG roots and certainly looks the part – very mean and seriously fast. Mercedes is offering a special ‘S’ model as well, which will replace the outgoing AMG Performance Package. The S version will also get a special spoiler and custom matte black alloys for the 19 inch wheels. Mercedes has also launched the E63 Wagon along with the sedan.

Like all AMGs the true power of this vehicle lies under its hood. The 5.5 litre V8 has been updated and now produces 557 BHP (up from 518 BHP). This new found power propels the E63 from 0-100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds! For the first time, Mercedes also brings the E63 with their 4MATIC all wheel drive system. This provides immense traction and brings the 0-100 km/h time down to an amazing 3.7 seconds. If that’s still not fast enough for you, go for the S version. With an extra 28 BHP, this one flashes from 0-100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds!

On the inside you will find AMG sports seats with contrasting stitching, a Bang & Olufsen stereo and a Nappa leather and Alcantara sports steering wheel (with flattened top and bottom, F1 style). Customers can also choose from a variety of packages, from carbon fiber to piano black finish.

These updates make it a strong contender to the mighty BMW M5, and perhaps even faster in a straight line. But despite being so similar on paper, the M5 and the E63 AMG are two completely different cars.
The E63 will be launched in India some time after its global launch, and the prices have not been revealed as yet. I am surely looking forward to a road test once the car is launched in India, so watch this space!
